Steel plant waste treatment (e.g. EAF dust)

Tetronics has extensive experience using their plasma technology to treat steel plant wastes and other base metal bearing industrial and urban wastes, allowing value to be obtained from wastes that would otherwise not be considered as a viable resource and would therefore be disposed of in landfill or stockpiled. Tetronics offer world leading solutions for steel waste recycling.

The challenge of Steel Waste Recycling

During the manufacturing of steel, a significant amount of hazardous bag house dust is produced that contains zinc and other metals and minerals generated from the steel smelting process. This dust is typically extracted by the air pollution control system on an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). The traditional means of disposing of EAF dust is at a hazardous waste landfill site where the tonnage cost varies from country to country, but commonly, the costs continue to rise.

Steel plant waste is difficult to recycle back through the primary steel plant facility because of environmental compliance issues and their physical form as particulates/dusts. The challenge is finding a viable solution that is capable of separating the valuable recyclable metals from the hazardous waste, which is a challenge that Tetronics’ technology is able to overcome.

How do we do it?

Tetronics’ plasma technology offers the ultimate solution for treating steel plant wastes by simultaneously extracting the valuable materials and destroying any hazardous components in an environmentally and sustainable manner.

Tetronics’ Steel Waste Recycling process not only eliminates the need for landfill but also offers the possibility of gaining maximum value from the steel plant waste through the recovery of valuable metals, such as Fe, Ni, Cr and Mo.
